This page is dedicated to printed material that in some way refers to
robots. Although many of these books are written in Japanese, they
are still wonderful to look at and to use as image references. I'd
recommend visiting Eau de Alt at Toybox DX if you want to see some
great translations. I've actually asked Matt to translate stuff for
me, and he's really cool about it. I love books so this is one of my
favorite pages! |

Japanese Toy Reference Books
Stuff like Popy, Shogun Warriors, Godaikins, etc.
|
|
 |
The Chogokin
If you like Chogokin, you will really love this book. Although its
not as good a reference as Green Arrow or Treasure Appraisal it
offers more variety. There are incredible pictures of the toys
being made, blueprints
of the toys and wonderful concept
sketches. If only I could read Japanese. |

View Broadly Giant book of Robots
This is an awesome book full of lots of illustrations and screenshots
from the super robot shows. I always love just flipping through this
book and seeing the amazing images these guys have come up with. Get
it if you like big Japanese robots. |

|
 |
Green Arrow Graffiti
This little book is one of my favorite references for Popy and
diecast toys. Inside it has a picture of the toy and photos of all
the pieces that came with the toy. I'd highly recommend this if you
get Japanese popy diecast pieces. [example

Kazunori Saito's Collection - Diecast
This is more of an artistic display of all the die-cast figures in
Mr. Saito's collection. It is a beautiful book with all kinds of
photographs all wonderfully laid out. |

Kazunori Saito's Collection - Diecast
This is more of an artistic display of all the jumbo machinders in
Mr. Saito's collection. It is a beautiful book with all kinds of
photographs, all wonderfully laid out. If you collect Shogun 24"
toys you'll be amazed by some of the amazing toys that were made in
this scale. |

|
 |
Kazunori Saito's Collection - Vehicles
This is more of an artistic display of all the die-cast vehicles in
Mr. Saito's collection. It is a beautiful book with all kinds of
photographs, all wonderfully laid out. There are lots of these little
guys on motorcycles throughout the book, and all the Shogun vehicles. |

 |
Treasure Appraisal Catalog
This is my favorite reference book. It has all the robots in order of
when they were produced, their GB or GC#, and all the stuff that was
in the box. You need this book if you want to make sure you're
getting all the stuff that the bot originally came with. [example

Toy Reference Magazines
Find out about new toys and shops to get them from
|
|
 |
Action Figure News & Toy Review
This a cool magazine that has tons of ads for toy stores and shows.
Although most of the articles deal with Spawn type things,
transformer collectors can find a few articles here and there. I
usually just read this mag at the store and only buy it if there is a
really cool article or two. |
|
|
|
 |
B-Club
A large format magazine that has lots of great pictures of toys,
models and some manga thrown in. I buy these sporadically because
they cost so much and are hard to find. You can sometimes find this
mag in Tower Records or try one of the Japanese direct model shops in
the links section. |
|
|
|
 |
Hobby Japan
This is a great magazine with tons of pictures and articles, mostly
in color. It is very thick with lots of pages so you get your moneys
worth. I try to buy this as often as I can, but sometimes I get sick
of all the Gundam stuff. |
|
|
|
 |
Model Graphix
I only have a couple of these from the eighties but I think its still
around. It another large format magazine with lots of cool pictures
and some manga stories. Most of the article are about building tanks
or airplanes, so make sure it has pertinent articles in it before buying. |
|
|
|
 |
Toy Shop
For years this was the best way to find toys, until the internet came
along. I still like reading it and seeing if I can find a hidden
treasure for sale somewhere. Its a great place to find out about toy
fairs and shows. It comes out every two weeks and can be found in toy
shops or some comic shops. |

Random Books
Just some really cool books I've picked up
|
|
 |
The Model Building Handbook
by: Brick Price
Great tips on building models and dioramas for trains or toys. there
is also a great deal of material about collecting toys and how to
shop for and inspect your toys. If you like building sc-fi models
this book will give you some great pointers. |

|
 |
Robot: the mechanical monster
by: David Annan
I've had this book forever. It has great pictures of robots from
movies and shows. There are a couple Japanese references, but mostly
its just a fun book to read through. |
|
|
|
 |
The Robot Zoo
by: John Kelly
I love all those cross sections books and this takes that theme, but
puts a twist on it. The book is filled with cut away drawing of
robotic animals. Check out the picture of the [spider]. |
